My life in TEFL
After graduating from university with a Humanities degree, I enrolled in a Trinity TESOL course (grade B) in 1996. Over the next couple of years, I worked at summer schools teaching teenagers. Great fun but hard work! In 1998, I found work in a language school in central London and taught General English, exam classes and Business English to professional people. For a few years, I worked abroad, in Spain and Ecuador, before returning to London in 2004. I decided to take a higher level teaching qualification and received my Cambridge ESOL DELTA (level 7 in the National Qualifications framework in the UK) and I was offered a post as an Assistant Director of Studies at a British Council accredited English school in London. A couple of years later, I was promoted and worked as the Director of Studies for a couple of years.
In 2008, I studied for an MA in Applied Linguistics and ELT (English Language Teaching) at King’s College, London and I moved back to Spain soon after to work as the lead teacher trainer on a TEFL course. This led to an offer to work on a new Trinity TESOL course for trainee teachers in London. This was a great experience and I worked as the Course Director on several courses.
In 2012, I returned to Spain. Since then, I have been working as a freelance teacher, teacher trainer, and course designer. I’ve published video courses, created a couple of moderately successful blogs, worked as an EAP tutor at universities in the UK, and designed TEFL courses.
If you are interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you.
